What is Bisexual Erotica?

In a sense, bisexual erotica could be anything that turns bisexuals on -- but that might include almost everything ... As far as written erotica goes, it could mean more specifically:

Bisexual erotica is any erotica which acknowledges that bisexual desire exists; that people don't always fit neatly into categories of `gay' or `straight'
It should also contain some representation of this desire/behaviour.

Erotica has the potential to examine and question behaviour and assumptions, as in sexual relationships we have to confront our expectations of others and ourselves, our needs and fears for intimacy. As Ballard says in ``Crash":

In a sense, pornography is the most political form of fiction, dealing with how we use and exploit each other, in the most urgent and ruthless way.

Magazines such as Black Sheets, Anything That Moves, Fetish Times, Exquisite Darkness, Slippery When Wet, and Libido publish short erotica which have bi elements
The book Switch Hitters: Lesbians Write Gay Male Erotica and Gay Men Write Lesbian Erotica is perhaps the closest to a book of bi erotica which currently exists (a workshop at the last UK BiCon came up with the idea of producing a more specifically bi erotica book: see here for a call for contributions).

Robert Mapplethorpe, Del(la) Grace, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin et al, all have produced material which question the dualistic notion of straight versus gay desire -- Mapplethorpe's pictures of female bodybuilders are a neat example where the image of conventional gay male or female het desire is represented by the `wrong' gender. Della Grace and Cindy Shermans images often question gender altogether.
